Hospitality and Experience Spaces

Las Arenas Balneario Resort 5* GL Hotel — Valencia, Spain
"The Leading Hotels of the World"

Hoteles Santos entrusted Roberto Duato with designing and developing the landscaping project for the Hotel Las Arenas Balneario Resort, a project that has quickly become an international benchmark. Recognised at the 2009 ASLA Professional Awards by the American Society of Landscape Architects, the jury highlighted its quality as a ‘Very Good and Well Thoughtful Project, with Attractive Images and an Exceptional Narrative’, emphasising the conceptual, design and expressive excellence that characterises Duato's work.

His design defined a way of understanding the Mediterranean hotel landscape: elegant, coherent and deeply linked to the natural and cultural environment of Valencia.

Its creator, landscape architect Roberto Duato, conceived the resort's gardens as a masterful synthesis of innovation, sustainability and Mediterranean cultural memory. The proposal integrates gardening styles from all eras—from Egypt, Babylon and Rome to Modernism and contemporary urbanism—to offer a unique space that connects the history, architecture and natural environment of Las Arenas beach.

The design responds both to the practical needs of human beings (well-being, relaxation, everyday use) and to their emotional dimensions, evoking the innate memory of the Mediterranean landscape. The existing plant heritage was respected and a harmonious transition was created between interior and exterior, between public and private, between the essential elements of the landscape: air, water, earth, vegetation, light and shade.

The result is a set of exceptional gardens, where each space is designed to inspire thoughts, awaken emotions and beautify the views of those who contemplate them and those who decide to become part of them.

In the hospitality sector, the landscape becomes the essence of the experience. Every environment that is designed seeks to excite, connect and leave a lasting impression, transforming the stay into a memorable experience.

Hospitality and Experience Spaces line integrates nature, architecture and sensory narrative to create hotels, resorts, gardens and leisure spaces where landscape design defines the identity of the place.

Each project is an immersive experience: I work with atmosphere, light, sound and plant texture to create environments that convey calm, exclusivity or vitality, depending on the story the space wants to tell.

The landscape becomes the emotional language of destiny, creating places that are not only visited, but felt.

THE LANDSCAPE THAT MAKES YOU FEEL

High-end Bioclimatic Rural Tourism Hotel - Castellón, Spain

Roberto Duato was commissioned by the company Biotectura to develop a landscape integration project, materialised in an architectural model, of 23 high-end bioclimatic rural houses in the interior of Castellón.

The result was a hotel conceived as a living extension of the landscape, where the architecture blends into the mountains and every detail exudes sustainability. Part of the Biotopia project, the complex is not just a place to stay, but an immersive experience that invites guests to reconnect with nature, enjoying the most exclusive comfort in an authentically Mediterranean setting.

Architecture born from the land

Its terraced design follows the natural slope of the mountain, reducing visual impact and controlling erosion in a natural way. The dry stone walls, certified wood (FSC) and eco-friendly building materials blend respectfully into the environment, creating a harmonious whole that seems to spring from the earth. The use of native vegetation on green roofs and walls camouflages the hotel and increases biodiversity.

Bioclimatic design and environmental sustainability

Its solar orientation, natural thermal insulation and cross ventilation make the project a benchmark in bioclimatic design. Its capacity to collect rainwater, treat and reuse grey water, local food gardens, use of renewable energy, energy consumption control and smart water management make it an example of environmental sustainability.

Intimacy and connection on every terrace

Each room opens onto a private terrace separated by natural stone walls and vegetation, providing privacy and serenity. The Mediterranean vegetation—native to the area, including gall oaks, rockroses, mastic trees, heather and palm hearts—softens the lines, blends in with the surroundings and reinforces the atmosphere of calm. Here, guests find an intimate refuge from which to contemplate the horizon.

A hotel with soul

More than a destination, it is a manifesto of how bioclimatic design can transform tourism into a conscious experience. A perfect fusion of sustainability, landscape and contemporary comfort, created for those seeking a different way of inhabiting and experiencing nature.
